My Sunflower Story
I was born and raised in Kansas, where golden sunflowers crown the open prairies like a beacon of light. To me, it has always been more than just a symbol—it has been a companion, a guide, and a messenger of love.
As a little girl, I would spend summers on my great-grandmother’s farm. She was a gifted gardener who taught me about flowers and the beauty of tending and connecting with the land. In her garden, the sunflowers grew like tall guardians, towering even over my six-foot-tall papa. I remember running through those rows of golden blooms, looking up in awe at their radiant faces, feeling as though they were protectors standing watch over me.
My great-grandmother once painted me a sunflower, a gift I still treasure. When she passed, my family created a small flower garden in her honor. Out of the bare earth, one sunflower rose up in the center of the patch—tall, strong, and unplanted by our hands. I knew it was her way of telling us she was still with us.
From that moment on, the sunflower became sacred to me. It held my childhood memories, my ancestors’ love, and the reminder that light and beauty always return.

The Medicine of the Sunflower
The sunflower carries both earthly and spiritual medicine. Its face always turns toward the Sun, teaching us to seek the light, even in times of shadow. This wisdom has guided me throughout my life, especially in difficult moments, reminding me of the words: “Keep your face to the sun, and you cannot see the shadows.”
The spiral pattern at the heart of every sunflower follows the sacred Fibonacci sequence—the same geometry found in galaxies, seashells, and the unfolding of life itself. This spiral mirrors the soul’s journey of remembrance and growth, which is also at the heart of my healing work.
The sunflower is a symbol of:
• Light and Illumination – reminding us to face the source of truth.
• Resilience – standing tall through storms, rooted yet always reaching upward.
• Nourishment and Generosity – its seeds feeding birds, animals, and people, much like how love and healing ripple outward to others.
• Joy and Vitality – golden petals radiating warmth, mirroring the solar energy of life.
In Native American traditions, the sunflower was seen as a prayer to the Sun, a guardian of the harvest, and a sign of abundance. In astrology, it is the flower of Leo, ruled by the Sun, which makes it deeply personal for me as a Leo soul.
For me, the sunflower is not only a flower—it is a teacher, a healer, and a guide. It is why I chose the name Sunflower Soul Healing. It reflects both my roots and my path: always turning toward the light, always spiraling deeper into the soul’s wisdom, always offering nourishment from what has bloomed.
